The Cold Chain
is a WHO/PAHO-assisted program
which depends upon reliable refrigeration to conserve vaccines from point
of manufacture to point of use. Solar electricity is used in unelectrified
communities to maintain a safe supply of vaccines and to freeze icepacks
for transport to the most remote populations.
