Energy
Education in Schools
Tucson Unified School District
High School Students at the Tucson Unified School District, Tucson, Arizona
have learned about the practical uses of solar energy. Students have participated
in an Internet-based distance learning course taught by Ken Olson. In
the course students learn how to design photovoltaic (solar electricity)
systems. Some of the students also participated in the the installation
of a PV system installed on a Habitat for Humanity home in Tuscon.
PV systems for Schools
With funding from the Colorado Energy Office, four schools
in the Roaring Fork Valley of Colorado received PV systems. Students
at the Aspen Commuity School helped to install theirs.
Energy Education in Schools
650 students from four middle schools in the Roaring Fork Valley of Colorado
learned about the science and practical uses of energy. As part of the
20-hour program students used an Energy-Cycle to produce their own power
by hand. They will never again take for granted the value of a kilo-Watt-hour.
The students also applied their new energy knowledge by building and racing
solar-powered model cars. Students then went on to compete and win the
National SolarSprint competition in Golden, Colorado.
