Project Description
A
grid-tied PV system
of approximately 2.4 kilo-Watts
capacity will be installed on a single family residence. Participants
will assemble and install all aspects of the project including PV array,
inverter, service disconnects, overcurrent devices, conduit, cables, and
grounding. Participants will work in a supervised learning environment
in order to understand the what, why, and how of all aspects of a Code
compliant PV installation. Participants will also learn the proper use
of tools and jobsite safety precautions.
Additionally,
a smaller stand-alone system with batteries will be assembled on site
by participants. The system will be used by the owner for the purpose
of testing PV system components.
Instructor:
Ken Olson has
taught Photovoltaic Systems Design and Installation since 1985. He is
a Certified Vocational Educator in the State of Colorado and has been
teaching hands-on practical training in renewable and solar energy technologies
full time since 1981. He is a Co-Founder of Solar Energy International
(SEI) and served as it's Executive Director from inception in 1991 until
September 1999. He has also developed and taught Photovoltaic training
courses in for the World Health Organization and Pan American Health Organization
since 1989. From 1981 until 1991 he developed and taught a vocational
solar training program as a Professor and Industrial Trainer at the Colorado
Mountain College in Glenwood Springs, Colorado.

Note: These are directions to Kingston, NY. The Installation site is approximately
15 minutes by car from where most of the lodgings will be found. Directions
to the project site will be provided to registered participants prior
to the beginning of the course.

you exit the tollbooth at Kingston you will be on a roundabout, take the
second right (Washington Avenue) the Holiday Inn is approximately ¼ mile
on the right.

Upon exiting NYS Thruway Exit bear right onto Route 28 (Pine Hill). After
the traffic light make right onto Route 209 North, "Rhinecliff Bridge".
Route 209 becomes Route 199. Continue on Route 199 east, take "Last Exit
Before Toll" - Route 32 North. (The distance from Route 28 to Route 32
is about five miles). Make a right onto Route 32, proceed ½ mile to Kingston
Airpark on the right. Follow the roadway to the SunWize building at the
back of the parking lot.
