of
Course & Project
The
PV Design & Installation course will combine classroom and
hands-on practical skills learning. The PV systems installed during the
course are in direct support of Instituto
Tonantzin Tlalli (ITT), an Eco-Agro-Technology Center located
in Oaxaca, Mexico.
Participants
will learn basic PV system design and gain hands-on, how-to skills and
experience by working with a variety of PV systems to power the ITT
training and demonstration center.
There are no pre-requisites or prior technical knowledge for this course.
It is open to anyone with the desire to learn the practical application
of solar electricity.
PV
Systems to be installed at
ITT will power facilities
including workshop, office,
classroom, kitchen, dormitory, three small residences and
water pumping for domestic water supply and crop irrigation. The systems
will serve as demonstration of a range of PV options available to local
residents and communities.

Instructor:
Ken Olson has
taught Photovoltaic Systems Design and Installation since 1985. He is
a Certified Vocational Educator in the State of Colorado (US) and has
been teaching hands-on practical training in renewable and solar energy
technologies full time since 1981. He is a Co-Founder of Solar Energy
International (SEI) and served as it's Executive Director from inception
in 1991 until September 1999. He has also developed and taught Photovoltaic
training courses in for the World Health Organization and Pan American
Health Organization since 1989. From 1981 until 1991 he developed and
taught a vocational solar training program as a Professor and Industrial
Trainer at the Colorado Mountain College in Glenwood Springs, Colorado.
Ken Olson has lived in Oaxaca, Mexico since October 1999.

Lodging is widely available in Oaxaca and is quite economical. Clean,
comfortable rooms are available for $12 per night and up. Excellent Oxacan
cuisine is available at countless restaurants and cafe's for under $2.50
US and up. Local markets with fresh fruits, vegtables and baked goods
are plentiful.

Directions
Air Travelers should fly to Oaxaca by way of Mexico City. You will obtain
a visa upon entry. A passport is not necessary for US citizens. but you
should have a Birth Certificate. Citizens from other countries should
check with the Mexican Embassy or Consulate in your country.
